The FIFA president anticipates the solutions being studied to avoid capital gains chaos: “We are working on an algorithm that can retrieve the value to every player in the world. If every time the judiciary investigates transfers it sees problems, it means that we must work. The problem arises in the arbitrariness in determining the value of a player “.
“In the sales of footballers 7 billion euros are transferred in a year, in a far west system. It’s not good, we must be honest: the system has failed, we have to correct this thing”. FIFA president Gianni Infantino also spoke on the issue of capital gains. He does so during an interview with Report, broadcast on Rai 3. “We are also working in this direction, with an algorithm that can give the value of every player in the world. If every time the judiciary investigates transfers it sees problems, it means that we must work”.
“Arbitrariness of a player’s value is a problem”
Words that suggest an imminent revision of the system, returned to discussion after Covisoc and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office opened a file with the hypothesis of false accounting against Juventus, for the capital gains made in the transfer market operations of the last three years, and have identified more than 60 suspicious transactions that also involved other clubs in the Italian top league. “The problem – observes the FIFA president – arises in the arbitrariness in determining the value of a player”.
“New rules also for player agents”
The reform will also involve the role of prosecutors: “In 2014, the administration of the FIFA era decided to deregulate the agent system, abolishing everything that regulated the profession. This caused chaos. Next year – explains Infantino – the examination, the register of agents, clear rules on conflict of interest, and the ceiling on commissions will be reintroduced. A Clearing House will also be created, it should ensure that payments are made transparently”. Rules are made to “correct the transfer system – it will be a mechanism similar to the one used by banks for anti-money laundering”.
“Biennial World Cup? Two million more jobs “
Among the highly topical issues there is also the possibility of playing the World Cup every two years, a proposal that has a strong supporter in Infantino: “The two-year World Cup would give two million more jobs in the world – underlines Infantino – as FIFA we have always dealt above all with sporting issues, it is time to look also at financial and economic ones”.
