Kylian Mbappé is at the center of an unprecedented €300m offer submitted by Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. 

They are prepared to shell out an astonishing €300m salary for just one season to finalize the transaction.

Following Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to drop Mbappé from their pre-season tour in Japan, their intention to trade him unless a new contract is inked became clear. While Al-Hilal’s bid is accepted by PSG, no discussions have taken place between the Saudi club and Mbappé. PSG still believes the 24-year-old has a mutual agreement to transfer to Real Madrid next summer for free.

Al-Hilal is setting its sights on convincing Mbappé with a staggering €300m annual paycheck that could potentially surge to €700m yearly, considering commercial deals and image rights. The Saudi club, aware that a one-season contract may appeal to Mbappé, is welcoming an arrangement that would shatter existing financial precedents in football. Al-Hilal had previously offered Lionel Messi an exceeding £350m annual salary to transfer from PSG, but the Argentinian superstar chose Inter Miami instead.

Earlier in June, it was reported that Mbappé handed a formal notice to PSG stating his decision not to pursue the option of a contract extension next summer. Nasser al-Khelaifi, the club’s president, expressed this month: “If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he has to sign a new contract. We don’t want to let the world’s best player go for free; it’s simply not an option.” Mbappé moved to PSG from Monaco in 2018 for £166m.

Saudi Pro League teams have been making substantial investments this summer to secure European players. Al-Hilal, majority-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (which also holds the majority stake in Newcastle United), is one of four teams in the country and has acquired talents like Rúben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Kalidou Koulibaly. They are also finalizing deals to bring in forwards Malcom and Aleksandar Mitrovic from Zenit St Petersburg and Fulham respectively.

Mbappé seemed on the verge of transferring to Real Madrid last summer before deciding to extend his stay in Paris. The existing record transfer fee is the €222m PSG paid to Barcelona for Neymar in 2017, whose contract is set to run out in June 2025.

Manchester United have indicated no interest in negotiating for Mbappé as they remain focused on Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta.
